Asset health data: turning pressure into progress
26th January 2026

As the UK water sector enters AMP8, expectations around asset health are rising sharply. AMP8, the current five-year regulatory period running from 2025 to 2030, places a much stronger emphasis on long-term resilience, evidence-based investment and transparent decision-making.

Water companies are being asked not just to maintain assets, but to demonstrate that they understand their condition, performance and risk across the full asset lifecycle. To do that, they need data they can trust, data that supports confident investment decisions, improves resilience and stands up to regulatory scrutiny.

Ofwat’s PR24 roadmap is accelerating this shift. Throughout AMP8, water companies must define asset inventories, assess condition consistently and prove they have the systems, data and governance in place to manage assets effectively. For many organisations, this is exposing a familiar challenge: asset data is fragmented, inconsistent and difficult to use.

Most water companies aren’t short of data. Instead, it is spread across legacy systems, reports, spreadsheets and documents, making it hard to build a clear, joined-up view of asset health. Pulling this information together manually is slow, costly and introduces risk, particularly when regulatory deadlines are involved.

This is where Answer Digital comes in.

What we’re delivering with Yorkshire Water

Our recently awarded programme onto the £32m Yorkshire Water AI Framework closely links to this problem, helping make complex operational data usable, trustworthy and valuable at scale, and ready to support their ambitious AI strategy.

We’re connecting fragmented data sources, improving data quality, and making asset information easier to find and use across teams. The focus is practical: reducing manual effort, removing reliance on siloed knowledge, and giving decision-makers a single, trusted view of asset health.

How this helps the wider water sector

The same approach applies to any water company preparing for Ofwat’s asset health requirements.

We help organisations understand what asset data they already have, where the gaps are, and how to bring it together quickly. We improve data quality by validating and enriching records across systems, and we make sure asset data is accessible to engineers, asset managers and finance teams, not locked away in disconnected platforms or spreadsheets.

We’ve delivered large-scale programmes across, healthcare, finance and other regulated sectors, where accuracy, governance and confidence really matter.

From compliance to capability

Ofwat’s new requirements are a clear opportunity to invest in stronger data foundations, not just to meet regulatory expectations, but to improve everyday asset decisions across AMP8 and beyond.

At Answer Digital, we work alongside delivery teams to connect systems, unlock data and build solutions that are robust enough for regulators and practical enough for real operational use.

If you’re preparing for asset health reporting, or want to move faster with confidence, now is the time to get your data working harder for you.
