The day in the life of a Lead Delivery Consultant
23rd February 2026

Every great delivery needs someone who can hold the threads, steady the room, and keep things moving forward without drama. That’s exactly what Beryl does, and she does it brilliantly.

Continuing our theme of spotlighting the day-in-the-life of some of our tech people, today we are catching up with Beryl, who recently celebrated her 2nd work anniversary with us!

The day in the life of a Lead Delivery Consultant

Beryl is a Lead Delivery Consultant, and if you ask her to explain her role in one sentence, she’ll tell you she helps clever people with big ideas actually get things done, without the chaos, confusion or panic. It’s a deceptively simple description for a role that sits right at the heart of complex programmes.

On a day-to-day basis, Beryl’s focus is alignment. Keeping everyone informed. Keeping things moving. Keeping the plan intact, ideally without anyone metaphorically setting fire to it. Delivery isn’t just about milestones and timelines; it’s about people, clarity and momentum.

How does Beryl start her day?

Her mornings begin with tea (always tea), a quick scan of what might be “on fire”, and a rapid mental prioritisation exercise before the day begins in earnest. Then comes the calm exterior, even if there’s a lot happening beneath the surface.

What does a typical day for a Lead Delivery Consultant look like?

A typical day? Back-to-back meetings, messages, and a lot of translation. Different disciplines often use the same words to mean completely different things, so part of Beryl’s superpower is helping everyone understand each other. Somewhere in the middle of it all, she’ll often ask the question that cuts through the noise: “But what are we actually trying to achieve here?”

Right now, she’s working on a large NHS genomics programme, supporting multiple teams to deliver joined-up digital services. The goal is simple but powerful, making complex healthcare processes simpler, safer and more usable. It’s high stakes, high complexity work, and exactly the kind of environment where calm, structured delivery leadership makes a real difference.

What is the highlight of Beryl’s role?

The most satisfying moment of her day is when a complicated problem suddenly clicks into place and you can feel the collective stress level drop. That shift, from tension to clarity, is what great delivery enables.

When things get busy, Beryl leans on a very good to-do list, clear priorities, and the steady reminder that not everything that feels urgent actually is. Perspective is part of the craft.

She’s currently working on improving one very specific skill: saying “no” without adding five sentences of explanation and an apology. Any seasoned delivery professional will recognise the challenge.

What is the biggest misconception about a Delivery role?

One of the biggest misconceptions about delivery is that it’s all spreadsheets and status meetings. In reality, it’s herding intelligent cats and preventing chaos, calmly, like a swan gliding across water while paddling furiously underneath.

What does ‘out of office’ Beryl look like?

Once she logs off, it’s a full switch into family mode. Time with her seven-year-old, fresh air, dog walks, and football, playing and watching the mighty Liverpool. It’s balance in action.

Fuel-wise, it’s tea to start, tea to continue, the occasional coffee for a boost, and water when she remembers she is, in fact, a human being.

Music tastes are eclectic and upbeat, Fleetwood Mac to Crowded House to Sam Cooke, Aretha or Nina Simone, or complete silence when deep thinking is required.

Beryl brings clarity, energy and a steady hand to some of our most complex work. And while it may look effortless from the outside, anyone who’s worked alongside her knows just how much skill sits beneath that calm surface!
