This month we’re celebrating Mark’s 4th anniversary with us, and if you’ve ever been part of a complex programme that suddenly felt clearer, calmer and more structured, there’s a good chance a Business Analyst like Mark was behind it.
What is it like being a Business Analyst
Mark describes his role simply: he translates business needs into clear requirements so teams can build the right solution. It sounds straightforward. In reality, it’s one of the most critical roles in any successful delivery.
Day to day, Mark is focused on understanding stakeholder needs, documenting requirements, and keeping everyone aligned as solutions move from idea to design to delivery.
How does Mark start his typical day
His mornings usually start with a scan of emails and calendar invites, prioritising the day ahead and reviewing notes before meetings begin. A quiet bit of structure before the noise starts.
A fairly typical day is a blend of stakeholder conversations, refining requirements, documenting decisions, and clarifying questions with Technical Architects. It’s the connective tissue of delivery work, ensuring what’s being built genuinely reflects what’s needed.
What is Mark working on right now?
Right now, Mark is working on the Social Care Wales Data Standard and FHIR training. The goal is to help teams understand and apply consistent data standards so information can be shared more effectively across systems and services. It’s detailed, standards-driven work with real-world impact, improving how data flows through critical services.
What is the best part of Mark’s day?
The most satisfying part of his day? When different teams, sometimes from different organisations, finally reach agreement. That moment when alignment clicks into place and everyone moves forward together.
When things get busy, Mark puts on music without lyrics to stay focused. His current go-to is Tycho’s Awake on repeat, calm, atmospheric, and just enough to block out distractions without hijacking his concentration.
What is the biggest misconception about being a BA?
One of the biggest misconceptions about Mark’s role is that Business Analysts “just talk to people.” The reality is that much of the value sits in the thinking, analysing, and translating chaos into clarity, the invisible work that prevents confusion later on.
What is Mark like ‘out of office’?
He’s also developing his commercial lens, working on spotting potential future projects where Answer Digital can add real value. It’s that mix of delivery discipline and forward thinking that makes a strong Business Analyst.
After work, Mark switches gears completely. Evenings are a mix of gaming, Warhammer painting, and spending quality time with his family. Focused during the day, creative and competitive by night.
Fuel of choice? Red Bull. No ambiguity there.
Four years in, Mark continues to bring structure, alignment and clarity to complex programmes. Happy anniversary, Mark, and here’s to many more years to come!
