Answer Digital Achieves Carbon Neutral Certification
At Answer Digital, sustainability is woven into our business goals, driving us to create meaningful change for our team, clients, and the environment.
In September 2024, we proudly achieved Carbon Neutral Certification through Carbon Neutral Britain, for the second year in a row. This accomplishment reflects our dedication to measuring, reducing, and offsetting our carbon footprint, as we take steps to support a sustainable future for generations to come.
What Carbon Neutral Certification Means
Receiving Carbon Neutral Certification from an external organisation like Carbon Neutral Britain validates our efforts. Through a meticulous process that follows the ISO 14064 and GHG Protocol Emissions Standards, our carbon emissions were calculated with transparency, accuracy, and consistency, ensuring that our carbon-neutral claims are credible and meaningful.
This certification is awarded for 12 months, with the commitment to re-evaluate and recalibrate our environmental impact annually.
Offsetting through verified carbon projects
We’ve offset our total carbon emissions through the Carbon Neutral Britain Woodland Fund™, supporting internationally certified offset projects under the Verra - Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), the Gold Standard - Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER), and the UN - Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programs. These initiatives do more than just offset carbon; they provide positive impacts worldwide, fostering education, employment, clean water, and biodiversity.
Some of the key projects we’re supporting include:
- Reforestation in Costa Rica and Uruguay These efforts focus on restoring forests, crucial for absorbing CO2 and preserving ecosystems.
- Blue Carbon Mangrove Restoration Mangrove ecosystems, known for storing massive amounts of carbon, also protect coastal areas from erosion and provide habitat for diverse wildlife.
- Household Solar Lighting in Zambia This project provides sustainable lighting to households, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and improving living conditions.
Answering the call to global climate targets
Our carbon-neutral journey is just beginning. In alignment with the Paris Agreement goals and Science-Based Targets, we’re committed to reducing half of our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieving Net Zero by 2050. To meet these targets, we’ve committed to reducing our baseline emissions by 74.43 tCO2e by 2030. This translates to a steady reduction of 6.25% annually from our baseline year, with ongoing adjustments for any future changes in business size and structure.
Preparing for a sustainable future
The UK government has set ambitious climate goals, including a 100% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with suppliers to government contracts expected to develop and publish a Net Zero Carbon Reduction Plan.
We’re aligning with this directive by calculating our Scope 1, 2, and some Scope 3 emissions, covering all six greenhouse gases recognized by the Kyoto Protocol. We’re also preparing to publish our Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) on our website, offering full transparency in our journey toward Net Zero.
Why sustainability matters to us
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact, not just as a business requirement but as a core value. Becoming Carbon Neutral Certified underscores our belief in responsible business practices that prioritise environmental stewardship. We’re proud of this certification and look forward to continuing our sustainability journey, taking actionable steps each year to help combat climate change.
